New Band in Town: Flaregun

Hard to believe, but Ryan Adcock and Craig Dockery have been playing music for over ten years now…just not together.

While Ryan’s been carving out his own path in more recent years, the past saw him working alongside a number of greats, both in his old band, The Ryan Adcock Band, (like Kim Taylor and lead guitarist Kelly Lapthorn) and in the studio (Brian Lovely, Ric Hordinski and Chris Arduser, to name just a few).

As a teenager, Craig Dockery started out playing Hendrix, Dylan and Zeppelin covers in his basement, but would later go on to form The Vinyltones in the mid-00′s, who were the first act signed to the indie label, Tru Artists Entertainment. They were signed by Matt Senatore, who’s worked with Blessid Union of Souls. In 2005, The Vinyltones song “Hope to Remember” was one of the most-played songs on XM Radio’s Unsigned Band Channel.

Adcock and Dockery first met, in the summer of 2005, through church services at a small Ohio church. Ryan had challenged himself to write one song a week specifically for the church, all being loosely based on ideas and thoughts that came from the sermon that week. At first, these songs were thought to be nothing more than basement demos, but would later be tweaked by adding electric guitar, drums and background vocals. And thus, Flaregun was born.

Their debut album as Flaregun is appropriately entitled, Ten Sundays, which you can find on CD Baby right here or on iTunes. Tune in to 89.7 WNKU fm, as they are also playing the album.

In honor of the CD release, Flaregun will be having a release show on Friday, July 10, at The Monastery in Walnut Hills. It’s an old, battered church that was converted into a recording studio by Ric Hordinski. It may seem like an odd choice for a venue, but it is probably the most perfect and proper venue for such an event. The show will not be your typical “night out listening to a local band.” They are working on creating a visual aspect as well, not just making it something to listen to, but also making it something to see and experience. There will be a jazz band kicking off the event. Tickets are limited and only $10, so get yours today.
