Organizers of the Whispering Beard Folk Festival recently announced an initial lineup of artists that will perform at the festival this August.
Topping the lineup, is country musician Guy Clark, bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles and the female country-folk trio Those Darlins. Clark has been an active musician since the 70′s, having released more than twenty albums, worked with artists such as Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle, and written hit songs for Ricky Skaggs, Steve Wariner and Rodney Crowell. The Turtles have been active in the Minnesota music scene since 2003, having become regulars at the now-defunct 10,000 Lakes Festival and having toured in the past with bands like Cracker and Lucero. The Darlin girls are based out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but are actually not sisters, made up of Kelley, Jessi and Nikki (originally from South Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia, respectively). They made their debut at last year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival, and are set to perform multiple showcases this week at Austin’s South by Southwest Festival, as is Trampled by Turtles.
Also on the bill this year are The Tillers, Paleface, Chicago Farmer, The Two Man Gentleman Band, Pine Hill Haints, Red Clay River, John Haywood, The Whiskey Bent Valley Boys, The Dust Brothers, The Boys n the Barrels, The Mt. Pleasant String Band, The Hiram Rapid Stumblers, Magnolia Mountain, Wonky Tonk, Duke Jr. and the Smokey Boots, Lauren Houston, The Downtown County Band, Billy Catfish, Rocky Cash, Frontier Folk Nebraska, Hazle Weatherfield, Eric Tepe and the Reeds and The Brothers and The Sisters. More artists are expected to be added to the lineup.
