Additional Forecastle Artists Include A Few Locals

As if this year’s Forecastle Festival in Louisville couldn’t have gotten any better – what, with acts like the Flaming Lips, Widespread Panic, Spoon and Bassnectar, not to mention a move just a few blocks down the Ohio River to the Waterfront Park – the festival just got a whole helluva lot better.

Organizers today announced a ton of additional artists, most notably big names like Devo, Cake and She & Him, and also released a daily lineup (not the actual stage schedule). One quick look at this year’s lineup and you’ll see how much promise a once-smaller festival now holds when stacked up next to the big dawgs like Bonnaroo, Lolla, Coachella and ACL.

Not only is this festival a steal for the price you pay to get in and the talent the promoters are bringing in, but the location is just as equally as important as all of the other factors. Lousiville is probably the perfect midwestern spot for an event like this – it’s just within hours of pretty much every major city in the midwest and the Waterfront Park sits comfortably within just minutes of one of the major highways in the midwest.

But what excites me the most about this festival, is that they are involving some of my favorite Cincinnati bands, which could possibly be thanks to Ian Bolender of Newport’s Southgate House and the band Ellison. Ian does most of the booking for the acts who perform at the Southgate House and also has some involvement with Forecastle, although I’m not sure how big of a role he plays. Never in my life would I have thought that I’d get to see some of my favorite local bands like Foxy Shazam, 500 Miles to Memphis, The Tillers and Pop Empire, alongside acts like the Flaming Lips, Devo, Widespread Panic and Cake.

Stay tuned for more news and updates on the 2010 Forecastle Festival. Here’s the daily lineup:
